NO PLACE: EDM AUDIO + VISUAL ARTIST

Electronic Dance Music and Visuals

Raised in the small town of Milpitas, California, NO PLACE planted its roots as a hobby from a music enthusiast but soon evolved into a project to cultivate and create innovative art, rhythms, and bass lines for the world to hear. From monthly LOCATION mixes online to performances on stage, NO PLACE is truly an artist to look out for.

Previous Branding

Tran preferred fonts that resembled theater posters like Sequel 100 Wide.
Capital sans serif lettering with bold, defined lines allowed for his name to be seen clearly. However, it lacked substance and character.

Previous Branding

This style from 2019 gave his logo more detail and flavor. The missing corners allowed for interpretations of mystery while the sans serif nature of the letters nodded to digital typography. One of the main challenges with this version was the lack of clarity.

Previous Branding

Used for his 2020 live opening performance for Eliminate, this version of the logo switched to a serif font. The center sections of it were shifted to offset the formal serif nature of the letters, giving it a more digital and “glitched” look that matched his music. Perspective warping was also added for dimension and increased theatrics for live shows.

Who I Am

Andrew Huu Tran, better known by his stage name “NO PLACE,” produces electronic dance music and theatrical visuals by combining rave history and home design. Having opened for big names such as Nathan “Eliminate” Merrill and McKenzie “Carbin” Morrow at just 21 years-old, makes him an artist to look out for in 2021.

How I Came To Be

Raised by parents all the way from Vietnam, a career in the arts was not something they had in mind for their only son. Despite preaching to him about careers in other fields, his parents were natural-born artists themselves. His mother was a hair stylist and home designer while his father cultivated the art of bonsai in their family garden. Influenced by these art forms, as well as over a decade of experience with Photoshop, inspired Tran to create art that people not only want to see, but also hear.

What Made Me

Skrillex, deadmau5, and Avicii are only some of the many influences that introduced Andrew “NO PLACE” Tran to electronic dance music. Very few of his peers in middle school knew of the genre and culture, therefore ostracizing him from many he tried to befriend. He used these social distances to his advantage, however, and chose to produce genres for those who felt weird, outcast, or in better terms, out of “place.”

What Represents Me

Originally a bass house producer, Tran released his debut single “Take You There” in 2020. He’s since moved to producing other bass-heavy genres such as dubstep & trap. He prioritizes clean mixes above all else, and is known for his clear, punchy drums, along with dry, crunchy bass synths.
